Pro-Touring
(also known as "Resto-Mods") is considered in
most circles to be an older car that has been updated to
be an even better daily driver and performance vehicle.
Pro-Touring cars are generally around 1976 and older, when
cars had drum brakes and poor handling.
Some
common upgrades to a Pro-Touring car (or truck) are:
- New
suspensions components, such as IRS, replacing (Chrysler)
torsion bars with upper lower control arms, subframes,
swaybars, panhard bars, air suspensions, coil-overs, rack-n-pinion,
etc.
- 4-wheel
disc brakes, larger rotors and calipers, powered brakes,
etc.
- New
style interiors, dash upgrades.
- New
performance (wider) tires and rims.
- New
engine modifications, fuel injection, etc.
- The
body on the outside generally stays stock, in some cases
with minor massaging, such as a different hood or light
fender flairs.
- The
idea is to keep the outside of the car looking stock,
but have the handling and power of a modern Corvette.
